Children of all ages will get fit at school while having fun with the Junior Jazzercise ?KIDS GET FIT? program at San Cayetano Elementary on May 8, 9 & 18 and at Bracker Elementary on May 16.

During National Fitness Month! Lourdes Jeong, certified Jazzercise Instructor will be hosting a Junior Jazzercise program in an effort to raise awareness about childhood obesity and overall health and fitness.

Currently we are not winning these battles. According to Data from the 2010 Census our total population in Santa Cruz County was at 47,420 of which 38.9% was overweight and 26.6% was considered obese.

Obesity is a risk factor that opens the door to hypertension and high cholesterol and increases the chance of diabetes. It can and will change if we can keep kids educated, motivated and active so that they grow into healthy adults. Lou will be teaching to over 300 kids at San Cayetano Elementary in Rio Rico and over 300 students at Bracker Elementary in Nogales showing them that fitness is important to their health and more importantly, it can be fun!

The Junior Jazzercise Kids Get Fit program is a great way for your child to get moving, have fun and stay fit. Children learn easy to follow dance steps and fun fitness games all set to the rhythms of popular music.

Based on sound principles of exercise and dance physiology, Junior Jazzercise offers a high-energy workout with an emphasis on physical fitness. Trained instructors teach children that being healthy and fit can be fun through current dance moves, games & activities, and discussion about basic nutrition.

Children who participate in Junior Jazzercise develop a strong sense of accomplishment and build a better self- image through their participation in the program. A non-competitive atmosphere allows them to have fun and work together.
