Men's Soccer Preview: University of Mobile & William Carey University

WEST PALM BEACH, FL ? Northwood University's soccer teams will continue their season-opening road trip with visits to University of Mobile on Saturday, and William Carey University Sunday in Hattiesburg, MS.

Due to the effects of Hurricane Isaac, the games were rescheduled and had venue changes. Saturday's games against Mobile will be played at Founder's Park in Fairhope, AL. The women's game will kick-off at 6:30 p.m., followed by the men's game at 8:30 p.m. The William Carey game has been moved from Friday to Sunday and will be played at Oak Grove High School. The women will play at 2:00 p.m., followed by the men at 4:00 p.m.

In the men's draw, the Seahawks will square off against consecutive nationally-ranked teams. The Seahawks are coming off a hard-fought, overtime win at Montreat College in their season-opener. In the overtime period, junior forward Mayowa Tola-Isaac (Milton Keynes, England) received a pass in the Montreat zone, beat his defender and fired a low shot past an outreached goalkeeper, getting the 1-0 victory for NU. Mobile University enters the game ranked #12 in the country, and are coming off a 9-0 victory against Florida Memorial University. UM freshman midfielder Gaetan Massiah (Bordeaux, France) led the way for the Rams over Florida Memorial with a game-high four goals.

NU will square off against the William Carey soccer team, who entered the season ranked fifth in the preseason NAIA coaches' poll,?on Sunday. The Crusaders won their season-opener against Cardinal Stritch University, 4-2, at home. In 2011, William Carey had a 16-4-3 record, finished fourth in the final NAIA coaches' poll, and advanced to the NAIA Tournament finals. Aside from losing their top two scorers, 20 players are returning to the Crusaders this season, including sophomore midfielder Luis Trude (Sao Paolo, Brazil/Instituto Paralelo), who had the second highest point total (23) on the team with seven goals and nine assists. Another player the Seahawks will need to watch is freshman forward Joaquin Serrano (Soto Del Barco, Spain/Universidad de Corona), who registered two goals in a five minute span, bringing the Seahawks back from a 1-0 deficit against Cardinal Stritch.
