Sony said its PlayStation Mobile store will open Oct. 3 and gamers will be able to use this store to discover, buy and download games.?
This will be available for devices like the Xperia Play?and you'll be able to download original PlayStation games on your phone. The store will also be filled with games from PlayStation 2 eventually, as well as original content.?
It's not just for Sony devices, though, as HTC is confirmed to be a third-party partner. It's unclear what the relationship will mean because Sony showed off the service on an HTC One X, but we're not sure if all of HTC's phones will be able to use this. We may see a special gaming phone from HTC down the road and that may be a better solution for PlayStation Mobile.
Sony introduced the PlayStation Mobile (then called PlayStation Suite) last year and I thought this was the smartest move?it could have made because we're rapidly seeing a shift to smartphones and tablets for gaming. It just makes sense because these smart devices give us all the communications we need and they are powerful enough to run high-quality games. Who really needs a standalone portable gaming machine??
It's taken a long, long time for the service to even open, though, and it's not clear that the PlayStation Mobile store will move the needle for many mobile buyers. ?
