(Editor?s Note: This is part of an ongoing series to preserve on the Internet the ?lost? poetry of Nunihal Singh Layal, the ?Tradesman Poet,? who I met in New Delhi in 1974. Some poems contain his original introductions. I have a self-published book of his that is disintegrating and falling apart and over the next year or two I will run and preserve all of his poetry here. This includes every word of the original introductions. Joe Gandelman. FOOTNOTE: Due to a 9 month road trip this project was interrupted but it will continue until his entire book is immortalized online. GO HERE to read past entries.)
Come and Go
by Nunihal Singh Laya
As world is progressing, life is becoming fast. Haste and hurry are the tendencies of the modern age. But in some places life is slow and calm. All our man-made distractions are ended and levelled by death.
Life is fast or life is slow;
To some it is bright, to some it is woe;
To some it is yes, to some it is no;
The nature of life is ?come and go?;
May be haughty, humble, rich or low;
Death to all is the final blow.
